Depression

Herbs:  St John’s Wort, Valerian, Rose, Cronewort, Mugwort, Sage, Rosemary, Oatstraw

Actions:  Activity, not necessarily physical, can assist with depression.  Lethargy exacerbates to feeling and the condition.  Also taking a good hard look at what you eat and when can assist with battling depression.  A lot of mood disorders can be traced, at least in part, to a lack of appropos nutrition, or an imbalance that is causing other physical issues.  We have had quite a bit of luck with this tea as a long term tonic for mood issues, and this one as a more immediate assist for depression and rage.

Vitamins/Minerals:  Vitamin C, antioxidants

Used for:  Heart disease, cancer, mental decline.  Immune system booster/strengthener.  Rose can also act as a hormonal balancer, and are useful for mood issues.  Due to the nutritional content of roses, this is almost a must for sickness and toxicity.

Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca)

Name:  Motherwort

Latin:  Leonurus cardiaca

Other Common Names:  Herzgespan, Agripaume cardiaque, Yi mu cao

Family:  Compositae (Sunflower)

Parts Used:

Vitamins/Minerals:  Calcium

Used for:  Good for moderating hot flashes and regulating mood.  Also a very potent aid if you suffer from anxiety.  Motherwort is particularly useful as while it is calming, while not being sedating.  It also regulates and tones the thyroid, blood vessels, liver, heart, and uterus.  It also can ease uterine cramping.

Use in tandem with:

Directions & Warnings:  Unfortunately, motherwort has a distinctly unpleasant flavour, and is hard to utilize in teas or as a fresh green in salads.  The best methods for utilizing this herb are tinctures and syrups.
