Used for:  Due to the nutrients contained within purslane, it is one of the best herbs for fighting depression.  It is also a potent nutritive, a one cup serving giving you all of your vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, and potassium.  The same nutritive qualities make this excellent for strengthening bones, maintaining healthy nerves, and balancing electrolytes.

Brigham Tea (Ephedra Nervadensis)

Used for:  Historically used to combat scurvy, and is quite rich in Vitamin C.  The plant can be used either dried or fresh.  Brigham Tea is also useful for blood purification and sinus congestion, and is a good spring tonic.  It does, however, contain ephedrine, so keep an eye on your reactions.

Used for:  Use as a tea.  Good for a bit of mood lifting after a dark time – suggested for the winter blues.  Rich in vitamin C and contains some needed trace minerals.  Good for arthritis.  Taking 3 cups of birch leaf tea a day is said to help clear acne.

Used for:  Historical records indicate that a daily tea of pine needles saved numerous old settlements from scurvy.  It is a strong source of Vitamin C, which was a saving grace in winter.  Due to the concentration of  Vitamin C, pine tea is also useful for prevention of colds and flu.   Chewing the sap can soothe sore throats and strengthen gums.  (Myrrh is a distant relative.)  Mixed with grease, the sap makes a good sealant.
