{"id":2047,"date":"2013-02-23T07:33:01","date_gmt":"2013-02-23T14:33:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archives.ravenandcoyote.net\/?p=2047"},"modified":"2012-06-28T10:16:49","modified_gmt":"2012-06-28T17:16:49","slug":"things-to-remember-to-clean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archives.ravenandcoyote.net\/?p=2047","title":{"rendered":"Things to remember to Clean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kitchen and bathroom sponges:<\/p>\n<p>Zapping sponges in the microwave 1-2 minutes a week will help to slow down the progression of the nasties that can live on them.\u00a0 Washing them with your hot loads will also help.\u00a0 Replace them every month or two.<\/p>\n<p>Purses and Wallets:<\/p>\n<p>Try not to set your purse down on the floor in a public place, especially bathrooms.\u00a0 Use hooks to hang it wherever possible.\u00a0 Wallets can actually be even worse, as they are usually kept in pockets, all nice and toasty warm&#8230;.\u00a0 Try not to overload your wallet with paper, including paper money.\u00a0 Take it out of your pocket whenever possible to let it breathe.\u00a0 Clean both purses and wallets as you can, with respect to the materials they are made of.<\/p>\n<p>Remote controls and video game controllers and keyboards and phones and mice and door handles&#8230; :<\/p>\n<p>Regularly wipe them down with a disinfecting wipe or spray.\u00a0 Wash your hands regularly, possibly even making a habit of doing so before sitting down to play a game or watch tv.\u00a0 Keep a bottle of disinfecting hand gel near your entertainment devices.<\/p>\n<p>Pillows and mattreses:<\/p>\n<p>The average person sheds 1.5 million skin cells per hour and perspires 1 qt per day &#8211; and that&#8217;s while doing nothing.\u00a0 Add in fungal mold and spores, bacteria, chemicals, dust, lint, fibers, dust mites, insect parts, and a host of other items&#8230;\u00a0 and a mattress doubles its weight every ten years.\u00a0 After five years, 10% of that weight of a pillow is dust mites.\u00a0 Cover your mattress and pillows with impervious outer covers, and don&#8217;t forget to do the same for your box spring.\u00a0 Wash your sheets in hot water weekly.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve actually considered steaming mattresses, running off the theory that you might be able to clean them similarly to floors, and many pillows can be washed.\u00a0 There are also non-chemical sprays that will break down all of that &#8220;extra&#8221; organic matter.\u00a0 (BioKleen and Ecover both have variants.)<\/p>\n<p>Refillable soap dispensers:<\/p>\n<p>Apparently these are just a really bad idea.\u00a0 Use bars, and clean the things you rest them in when you clean the rest of the area.<\/p>\n<p>Desk drawers:<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t keep loose food in them.\u00a0 Even if you manage not to do that, clean them regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Cars:<\/p>\n<p>Clean the inside surfaces.\u00a0 MInimize eating in the car.\u00a0 If you do eat in your car, make vacuuming it out part of your regular regimen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kitchen and bathroom sponges: Zapping sponges in the microwave 1-2 minutes a week will help to slow down the progression of the nasties that can live on them.\u00a0 Washing them with your hot loads will also help.\u00a0 Replace them every month or two.
